Why You Should Buy a Snowmobile
With the snow starting to fall, it’s time to ask yourself that question again: should you buy a snowmobile? If you ask us here at Richard’s Boat Yard, we could come up with lots of ways to use your snowmobile, even if you live in a place that doesn’t see a lot of snow. But it is a serious investment, so you’ll want to consider your needs and how a sled could help. And if you follow along below, you might find that by the end of this piece, you’ll be ready to head over to our snowmobile page to check out what we have available right now. If you’re from Windham, Standish, or Portland, Maine, then you can also stop by our dealership to chat with one of our staff or see the sleds we have up close and in person.
How Can You Use Your Sled?
Your biggest hesitation might be wondering what you’d use your sled for and whether it’d be worth the investment. We won’t lie: not everyone needs a snowmobile. But they can be more helpful than people realize.
Working in the Snow
The people who benefit the most from snowmobiles are generally those who spend a lot of time working in the snow. As efficient as cars can be, their reliability dips when there’s snow on the ground. Even other off-road vehicles aren’t as reliable in the snow as a sled that’s been specifically designed for this kind of travel. If you know you need to travel over a lot of powder, especially if you’re not on plowed roads, it could simply be easier to have one or more snowmobiles to ride around, rather than risking it with another vehicle or going on foot. Get a sled with storage capabilities and you’ll be good to go.
Recreational Thrills
Even though utility sleds are fun to ride and can give you an adrenaline rush, for some real thrills, you’ll want to go for sportier models. These are the types that let you ride trails and feel the chilly wind on your face. And this is definitely a big factor when some snowmobile shoppers are looking for the right model. There’s a reason you’ll find lots of snowmobile rental opportunities at popular snow stops. If you can’t enjoy some adventure in the snow, then are you really living your best life? But why stop at renting? If you’re hitting the snow trails often enough, then simply buy your own!
Hunting and Long Trips
There are other snowmobiles that are built for longer trips in the snow. These models are heftier and come with a more durable engine and more storage space. It’s difficult to explain to other people how peaceful and relaxing it can be to explore the white fields, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. If you’re into exploring, or if you know your hunting and fishing expeditions are going to pull you a little ways away from the main road, then there’s no better option than investing in your own sled.
## Health Reasons
Bet you didn’t think we’d bring it around to healthy habits, did you? After your first ride, you’ll probably feel a little sore and that’s because snowmobiling is an athletic activity. It requires lots of strength and control to steer. You’ll be burning calories, whether you’re out to have fun or to work.
There’s also something known as Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD. You might have also heard the terms “winter blues” or “seasonal depression.” There’s evidence that suggests staying indoors, away from natural sunlight, can alter your behavior and trigger depressive episodes. Even relatively healthy people can feel lethargic and unmotivated when they’re stuck inside all day, but it’s not as easy for everyone to take a stroll outside during the cold winter months. That’s where snowmobiling comes in. Having your sled ready for the winter is going to be an excellent way to get outside, get some fresh air and your daily dose of vitamin D.
